Outreach

Much of marine life is invisible to the human eye, yet microorganisms form the foundation of aquatic ecosystems and drive processes essential to life on Earth. Through a long-term collaboration with the multidisciplinary art and science collective Fern Orchestra, I explore new ways of bringing this hidden microbial world into public view.
Our work transforms scientific observations, living microalgae, environmental DNA and sediment archives into artistic experiences spanning light and sound, installations, publications and performance. By moving microorganisms beyond the laboratory and into cultural spaces, the collaboration creates encounters with marine science that are sensory, unexpected and accessible to audiences beyond academia.
